When and why was RHC established?
The Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine founded Regina Health Center in 1993 in its former Motherhouse to meet the health care needs of members of several Northeastern Ohio religious congregations, clergy from the Catholic Dioceses of Cleveland and Youngstown, and lay persons seeking a Catholic faith-based community environment. After a $7.3 million renovation, RHC opened its doors in July of 1993. Today, more than 300 people live, work and visit our campus daily.
Who sponsors RHC?
Founded by the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine, Regina Health Center is a ministry of the Sisters of Charity Health System. RHC’s administration handles daily operations with dedication and expertise. RHC is a Catholic facility open to all, without regard to religious preference.
Is RHC only for members of religious communities or the clergy?
No. RHC serves the communities in Northeast Ohio and welcomes all people needing supportive services or residential nursing care who want their care provided in a faith-based environment.

What health care services are available?
RHC was designed to meet a wide array of health care needs right on campus for residents. These services include:
- Wellness
- Inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services
- Emergency services include 24-hour emergency response by health professionals
- Assisted living services include activities of daily living
- Nursing services are provided on a 24-hour basis by qualified, licensed and certified professionals in RHC’s 101-bed skilled nursing facility
- Memory care unit provides memory support in a person-centered secure 17-bed unit for individuals with dementia
- Respite stay services
Are residents required to turn over all of their assets to RHC?
No, RHC has never had such a policy. Assisted living residents pay privately. Skilled nursing residents pay privately or costs are covered by Medicare (for skilled care) or Medicaid depending on the circumstances of the care needs or financial needs of the resident.
How do I know if I can afford RHC?
Upon application, RHC looks at an applicant’s income and assets to help determine financial eligibility.
Will long-term care insurance pay for any of the services RHC offers?
Depending on your long-term care insurance policy, some of the personal care and nursing care provided by RHC may be covered by your policy.
Do you accept Medicare and Medicaid?
Yes. RHC is a licensed Medicare and Medicaid provider for skilled nursing services.
Does RHC have a waiting list?
Yes. RHC keeps a list of applicants who are waiting for specific types of accommodations to become available.
Does RHC allow pets?
Family pets are allowed to visit. There are also therapy dogs that visit on a regular basis.
Can I entertain guests?
Family and friends are welcome to dine with you at RHC. A reasonable guest meal charge will be assessed. Advance notice is requested. You may also reserve a private dining room for special celebrations.
Does RHC have security or an emergency call system?
All rooms are equipped with an emergency call system with pull cords. RHC has 24-hour security and our nursing staff is on duty at all times.
Are there guest accommodations for any out-of-town visitors?
Yes. Guest suites are available for family or friends. There is a nominal charge for overnight stays and meals.
What kinds of activities are available at RHC?
RHC provides a wide variety of activities for all residents. Our monthly activity calendar notes the various activities, outings and special events.
Do you provide transportation?
Yes. RHC provides complimentary transportation for scheduled resident outings, as well as shopping and sightseeing excursions. Personal transportation is also available for medical appointments for a fee.
